Healthy Lifestyle and blogging don’t normally go together, but I shall go through a few blog diseases and see if you can pick out if your blog is getting what it needs to be healthy and have a healthy lifestyle.
Blog is Prone to Slowness
The Problem
My blog is slow and sometimes takes a few minutes to load, at other times it can be faster but every now and then it takes a dive.
Diagnosis
The cause of this could be many things but the main problem could lie with how many widgets, videos and music are there when the blog starts up. It could also be a sudden burst in traffic. My diagnosis is Imawidgetus Freakus
Cure
Luckily this isn’t a hard one to treat, try removing a few of those widgets you don’t need like the ones showing what countries people come from and all the traffic and alexa traffic buttons, they are not really needed and do tend to slow your blog down and make it look a mess.
Also check the quality of the plugins, does your blog tend to hang on a certain one or take a bit of time getting the information from someone elses website. If this is the case remove them, it will help you and your readers in the long run.
If you don’t have a lot of widgets it could be a burst in traffic or a sudden rise in the amount of visitors you get, if this is the case you may want to consider upgrading your hosting.
My Blog Looks Like it is on a Diet
The Problem
Can you help my blog seems bare and doesnt look like other blogs.
Diagnosis
There doesn’t seem a big problem here unless your blog hasn’t eaten for a while (had a post). On the other hand it may just need a new look as its clothes (template) could be outdated. It is most likely Regulas Posteritus
Cure
A blog needs food as much as you do, posting on a regular basis can draw readers back to your blog. Some post once a week and that is fine as readers will get used to that, but if you leave it to ever now and then it won’t look very good and may drive readers away to find somewhere that they can have a good read on a regular basis.
My Blog Tends to Make a Loud Noise on Startup
The Problem
I need help my blog makes noises on startup or plays music, it really annoys my boss and Ive seen other blogs with this, is it spreading.
Diagnosis
Simple one this and not hard to cure, it sounds like Peskius Audios , where music or other audio is set to auto pla when your blog loads the widget or music.
Cure
There is a quick and simple way to cure this and that is to check to see if the video, music, widget or whatever it is has an option to have auto start turned of, there is nothing worse than going to a site only to have it blast music at you.
I will have some more soon so you can send your blogs problems to me and I can publish them with a linkback to your blog ![]()
This post was inspired and entered into Borzacks latest contest to win a list of cool prizes, but has inspired me to write some more on blog diseases and cures for a healthy lifestyle.

Use that. It can handle upward of 10k requests an hour on a decent server. It caches everything so there is no php processing and no sql requests unless the page actually changes.

I tried it yesterday and it just caused me problems, I may try it again when I get some more time.

It’s a little tricky to get working. Root level access is required to make your caching and content directories writable. Shoot me an email if you get stuck again and maybe I can help, I’ve got it installed on 3 high traffic blogs.

This is very good! I submitted it to digg. I think it will be a popular post.
Glad to see you don’t suffer from my blog’s illness… fidgettinkeritius. I just can’t leave well enough alone and am always fidgeting and tinkering with everything!
