What I am proposing is a few things.

1: Blog about Blogcatalog on the 15th of August

2: Invite at least 1 person you know who blogs and get them to check out blogcatalog

3: If you let me know who the blogger is that isnt a member I will add them to a list below so you can all go and check out their blogs, you never know you may find a new favourite.

4: I am creating a new wall here consisting of as many bloggers avatars from blogcatalog as I can get. Sort of like a wall of shame. You can view it and the instructions here

Stumpedia, on the other hand, claims to be “human-powered” and actually seems to be the only such engine to be completely at the will of its users. It’s homepage states that this is a ”social search engine that relies on human participation to index, organize, and review the world wide web” without depending “on bots, algorithms, or company insiders to make decisions on the relevance and ranking of search results.”

With that said, Stumpedia has no guides to create result pages (as with Mahalo and ChaCha), and in fact, Stumpedia actually does not host any content pages and does not claim to be a content producer. Instead, users simply type in their search term(s) and the only results displayed are those that have already been submitted by other users. As of this writing, the service claims to already have more than 3,500 search terms indexed, 3,150 links, and approximately 600 users.

To test out how the service works, I searched for “online tv” and Stumpedia returned absolutely no results (as I was expecting). I then decided to take it upon myself to add some links (which required signing up for a free account), and now when a user searches for “online tv” results come up for Joost, Veoh.tv, Babelgum, Blinkx BBTV, Revision3 and Miro (as seen in the screenshot below).

The links that I added can now be voted on by other users with a Digg-style ranking system (thumbs up or down) which then helps determine the order of the returned results. This is a great idea, but it also leaves the system wide open to be abused by website owners or flooded with phishing links since there is no moderator to monitor listings. Luis Pereira, the founder and CEO of Stumpedia, has already mentioned, in an interview with The Next Web, that Stumpedia was started with “an open platform with the bare minimum essentials to get started” and that it is now being built up with the help of its community. “Keeping up with all the new feature requests our community is constantly recommending, and trying to implement them as quickly as possible is our biggest challenge.”

Hopefully this will mean that some sort of moderation will be added in the future, as this is necessary to keep the search engine spam-free. Human-powered results are good, but not all of those can be trusted considering how massive the issue of security on the internet has become.

The primary school pupil was one of 175 underage drinkers admitted to just one hospital last year for booze problems.

The shocking figures emerged yesterday in a study of young drinkers in Hull, East Yorks.

Almost 80 per cent of under18s in the city believed they drank too often. A fifth of its under25s were found to be borderline alcoholics.

The 175 kids needing treatment were recorded at the Hull Royal Infirmary.

Wendy Richardson, Hull’s director of public health, said of the figures: “I’m shocked, as any responsible person would be.” Humberside Police have pledged a crackdown on underage drinking after the Hull Citysafe report.

Supt Ian Furlong said the availability of cheap booze was “a real concern”. He called for more investment in treatment programmes.

Hull Citysafe also found 95 per cent of 18 to 25-year-olds were regular binge drinkers.

Project manager Kate Stevenson said: “The results are concerning but they will help us address alcohol misuse with young people as we now understand how severe the problem is.

“The majority who use alcohol ask family or strangers to buy it for them. We need to look at this.”

Does anyone else find this really disturbing. Where were the parents, did they feed him the alcohol or did he find it?

So using the following you should be able to work out how much to charge. Please don’t take this as stone clad and just as a rough guide.

What We Use To Work It Out

We will use the following.

• Unique Visitors a Day
• Alexa Rank
• Hits (Total page views a day)

I know alexa isn’t that good but its what a lot of advertisers use.

We shall base this of my users today.

So I have had

• 313 uniques
• Page Rank of 0
• Total Views 612
• Alexa 98,818

To start we will add total views and unique views together

925 = 313+612 = Stats

Page Rank will use the following

o-1 = 10

2 = 8

3 = 6

4 = 5

5 = 4

6 = 3

7 = 2

8 or 9 = 1

So times your (stats total) 925 x your figure from page rank (10) = 9250 the total is called Google Ranked.

Now share your alexa rank by the figure you produced above and round it of to the nearest whole number. 98,818/9250 so mine is 11 ( Alexed Rank)

If you end in a 0. number like 0.846 just use the first 2 whole numbers so it would be 84

Now multiply this figure by your unique views

11*313 = 3443

Now share the figure by 100

now if you had low figures for Alexa (230k and up, plus a low page rank 0-1) you need to use just the first  number ie 3143 you would use 3 for your total.

34.43 or 34
