Before I started trying to run some blogs for fun back in November, I had no clue what a social network, SEO, or “stumble” was. It was funny because many of my friends, and my “partner” would ask me, “Why bother? There are already a million blogs out there already…” Well, my answer for them is the same answer I try to give anyone who loves something.
You don’t do it to compete against anyone. You don’t do it because it looks good, or will make you money. Yes, all cliche. I can say with pride that I post stories, and music, and videos because I AM IN LOVE with it. Yes, I am in love with this whole process. Just like I am in love with eating, and drinking. Why?
It is such a fascinating process to post something you have created (even if it may be a link to another article, cough), and watch it grow. It is funny to watch the social experiments take place (I mean this is a sociologist, and psychologists dream) and see what articles you post to digg, propeller, stumble, etc. really take off, and which ones fall to the bottom of the ocean. It is a funny thing to look at statistics and see what people have been searching for, or linking to. But that is not all of it.
Even with the love, and the fascination, there is something else about this artform. It allows freedom of expression. It allows us to be ourselves, without some of the fear involved in the “reality” of the world. It is easy to say to “be yourself” in the world. But it is not. And you would be lying to yourself if you thought you could. I mean, one of my passions is the bizarre, the weird, the strange. It does not go over so well in the workplace (Prove me wrong…lol)
So in 3 months, I have learned a great deal, and there is so much secretive information I still long for. How does Google Rank? Do they really use that algorithm they post or is that a bunch of doody? Does Stumble have its own secrets? What about Digg? Why did they ban my co-partners ip address? Ah the fun of the internet. It is a never ending puzzle, and roller coaster ride of twists and turns.
But the good part is you are not alone!
Well, technically you are, (if you are staring at this screen in your cubicle, or home)
Have a great day, and I hope you learn to love this artform as much as I do.

Good post Matt. I just love the dynamics of social blog networking. I enjoy reading other peoples blogs and I enjoy when people find my blog. Thanks for the blog catalog guide that was great.
